PM Modi inaugurates the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in Odisha, celebrating India’s global diaspora and fostering stronger international ties.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially launched the 18th edition of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, on Wednesday. The event, running from Wednesday to Friday, is organized by the Indian government in collaboration with the Odisha state administration.
Upon his arrival at the Biju Patnaik International Airport, PM Modi was greeted by Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The gathering marks a significant occasion in strengthening ties between India and its overseas community.
Addressing the attendees, PM Modi highlighted the importance of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in fostering connections between India and its global diaspora. He remarked, “The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas has become a vital platform for enhancing the relationship between India and its people abroad. It is a momentous occasion, especially as we prepare for the Mahakumbh in Prayagraj and the festivals of Makar Sankranti and Magh Bihu. The festive spirit is palpable, and your presence in India during such a joyful time adds to this celebration.”
PM Modi further highlighted the historical significance of the day, recalling that it was on January 9, 1915, that Mahatma Gandhi returned to India after years of living abroad. “This day marks the return of Mahatma Gandhi to India, a pivotal moment in our history. Your participation in this event at such a time adds to the national spirit,” he added.
The Prime Minister also noted that this year’s Pravasi Bharatiya Divas holds special significance as it coincides with the centenary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s birth. He credited Vajpayee’s visionary leadership for laying the foundation for this event, which continues to unite the Indian diaspora worldwide.
The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas serves as a key event to celebrate the contributions of the Indian diaspora to the nation’s development. The convention brings together people from various countries to engage in discussions, share experiences, and contribute to India’s growth.
